What We Do
SERTOMA Stands for SERvice TO MAnkind
SERTOMA International’s mission is to improve the quality of life for those at-risk or impacted by hearing loss. We are a civic organization that works to improve the quality of life in our communities through our service. The SERTOMA Club of Lawrence was founded in 1929. Our international organization was founded in Kansas City in 1912.
In the past we have provided flag poles, hearing aids, scholarships, Socks for Schools, as well as funded an annual Communication Camp and financially supported dozens of other Lawrence non-profit organizations. Last year we donated $5000 to four different not-for-profits helping our community through improving health care, food access, school supplies, and a communication camp. Currently our major fundraiser is Lawrence Lights, a holiday light show beginning the day after Thanksgiving and running through Christmas.
We meet at noon on the second Tuesday of the month at Six Mile Chop House to socialize and to learn about our community through speakers from the city, various businesses, and non-profit organizations.
