Hall of Honor Inductee: Bernard Judge

Bernard Judge joined SERTOMA in 1966 and was an active member for 57 years with perfect attendance for over 50 years. He has been active in all fundraising endeavors from selling GE light bulbs (door to door) to working at the Sertoma BBQ, to our current fundraiser- Lawrence Lights.

Bernard held many offices within our Local club and the regional district including Lawrence club secretary from 1967-1974, 1st Vice President from 1974-1975, and Club President from 1975-1976. He was Kansas District Governor from 1977-1979 working with 16 SERTOMA Clubs in our district. In 1979, on our Lawrence Club’s 50TH anniversary, he put together a 48-page booklet about Lawrence SERTOMA and the City of Lawrence history that was presented to members attending the banquet. In 1983, he chaired the Sertoma Regional Convention here in Lawrence with more than 300 people attending.

More recently he was our sponsorship chair (for over 20 years) making sure our money was given responsibly (for flag poles, for scholarships, for socks for schools). In particular, he always supported our affiliate, the Schiefelbusch Speech Language Hearing Clinic providing for specific needs such as a color printer, laminator, adaptive chairs, hearing loop, and other supplies. He also visited the children at the Sertoma-Schiefelbusch Camp each summer from 2000-2019.

Notable SERTOMA Awards and Achievements:

Bernard has earned a new Member GEM award, Centurian, Tribune, and 10 Senator Awards for individuals meeting attendance, recruiting, and convention goals. He received three Lawrence SERTOMAN of the Year Awards- 1977, 1984, and 2016. Note: in 2016 he marked 50 years of perfect attendance.
